One Crazy Night
Last night was "supposed" to be an enjoyable evening dinning with some friends from work at our annual Corbis Christmas party. It, however, turned out to be quite another thing. The snow was coming down quite fierce most of the afternoon and after waiting at the bus stop for over an hour, I decided I better go in and call Wendy to come pick me up. From where I was, it appeared that there was just a nasty wreck somewhere on 14ST NW northbound and that southbound looked clear and drivable. I was wrong as Wendy almost got stuck coming out of our alley. Unfortunately she couldn't call me at my desk to tell me that as I had walked out of the office to use the restroom and neglected to bring my access card to get back in. Or office's security system locks all the doors after 5. So I was stuck out of the office and had to then just wait outside for my wife, that couldn't make it. The snow did finally calm down and I did finally get the message the Wendy wasn't coming so I just walked home. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal but I didn't have the best winter clothes on. It took me about an hour to get home but I did make it. When I arrived home to tell my wife of all the happenings, I could not find her. I looked all over the house but no sign of her. So after about 20 mins of looking, and I must admit a bit of worry, I found her outside acting in place of a traffic cop. The police, no doubt, were pretty busy all over town and were no where in sight. So my wife, as well as a few others, took it upon themselves to be good Calgary citizens and lend a helping hand. They started out there on 14 ST NW northbound at about 7ish just helping to push cars that where stuck in the ice, they later worked together to bring some sort of organization to this massive mess of cars by directing them to a single lane and then timing the cars to one by one climb the ice hill. She even wheeled our wheel barrow about a block full of sand to spread on the road. I didn't get home to almost 10pm and missed most of the action. I did join in on the fun for a bit by helping to push a few cars that had tried climbing the hill too slowly. We finally headed back in doors just after 11pm. I was VERY proud of my wife for her gallant efforts that evening. If it had not been for her efforts, cars would have ended up getting stuck for good that evening and would have shut the road down till morning. She was totaly worn out this morning and sore as "pinedorf" as my brothers would say.

Wiltons Cake Decorating Course III

Hi again! Well, this course was the most work out of all of them! Phew! Its very rewarding to look at your cake when it is done, but it is a lot of work! In this class we mostly learned how to work with fondant, which is an icing that is like playdough. We also learned a few new borders and the course also included making more royal icing flowers, but the class voted against doing that. I actually missed the third and fourth class but I still kept up at home and made my final cake. Whether or not my instructor lets me have my certificate is still unknown? I hope so!
We made two cakes in this class. The first one, a Gift Cake and the second one, a Wedding Cake. I began to deviate a bit in this class as the cakes we were supposed to make just didnt suit my style. Above are the cakes we were supposed to make...below are the ones I made. My own designs. I still encorpoated what we learned in the class and the techniques that were supposed to be used to decorate the cake. Enjoy!
The Gift Cake
My Gift Cake was made with chocolate cake. My bows needed more time to dry...I was guessing at that. They need a few days to dry, not just an afternoon!

The Wedding Cake
We took this picture in the fridge at Robs work. Rob also touched it up a little. It looks like it came from a magazine! Below are some of the pictures I took along the way. It took a long time! I'd say part-time for about 2 weeks. One week for the roses. Oh, and the cake is made with orange cake, saskatoon filling and orange icing. Very yummy!

Wiltons Cake Decorating Course II
Okay, sorry it's taken so long to write this blog. Right after this course I started the next course! For this course I had to go to a different Micheal's so I had a different instructor and a new group of ladies to work with. They were lots of fun and I really enjoyed this class. Also, the course was a bit more laid back and so that was a nice break from course one.
In this course we mostly learned how to work with a new icing, royal icing. We learned how to make many different kinds of flowers which were for our final cake. We only made one cake in this course, which was nice, and we also learned the basket weave and rope border. I really enjoyed the that. I like pipeing! Below are some more pics. Enjoy!
Oh, also, the birds, butterfly wings, and fence are made with color flow. Really neat too!

Wilton Cake Decorating Course I
Over the last few weeks I took Wiltons Cake Decorating Class I. Rob and I were at Micheals last spring and saw a group of ladies practising their roses and I sooo wanted to be there! Finally it worked in just right and I got to!
Honestly though, the class required a lot more supplies and time then I might have expected but it was well worth it. I had soo much fun practising and making cakes! We made a cake each week! Luckily, the department my husband works in gladly ate my cakes. :)
There are two more classes that of which I am considering...but not until the new year. Below are some pics of my cakes.
This is my first cake. A two layered chocolate cake with chocolate
pudding in the middle. I had a little trouble with the icing but it
turned out alright it the end. We put the rainbow on in class.
This is my second cake. It was really a re-attempt at the first cake.
Particularily the icing. I also went ahead of the class a little with the borders and roses.
(I didn't take this one to class just in case I'd get into trouble! )
This was my last cake. I had such a great idea and could hardly
wait to make this cake. It is a carrot cake with cream cheese icing,
again stepping outside of the class, and the faces are made with royal
icing. Robs department had a lot of fun with this cake. It was especailly
made for them. The faces are of each person in the e-commerce
development department at Veer.
It was a lot of work and there were some hard learning curves but I can hardly wait to make my next cake!!!!
